Does Sobeys price match?
The policy, plainly
Sobeys has no traditional at-the-till competitor price match. Instead, its "Verified Prices" program (Atlantic Canada — NS, NB, NL, PEI) automatically credits the difference in Scene+ points when a flyer item marked with the "Verified Prices" icon is cheaper at a pre-selected competitor. It's a points guarantee on items Sobeys chooses — not a price reduction, and not something you can trigger with a competitor's flyer at checkout.
The fine print they bury
- What counts as a competitor
- For the Verified Prices points program (Atlantic Canada only): pre-selected "competing supermarkets" — brick-and-mortar only (e.g. Atlantic Superstore, No Frills, Walmart, Your Independent Grocer), excluding online/e-commerce — and only on identical items Sobeys has flagged with the "Verified Prices" icon in its own flyer. There is no general, customer-initiated competitor price match.
- Proof you need
- None from you — Sobeys pre-verifies competitors' flyers itself. You just show your Scene+ card and the points difference is credited automatically. You can't bring in a competitor flyer to match an unmarked item.
- Atlantic Canada only (NS, NB, NL, PEI); applies only to flyer items bearing the "Verified Prices" icon
- Excludes competitor e-commerce / online pricing (brick-and-mortar competitors only)
- The benefit is Scene+ points (minimum 1 point = 1¢), not a lower shelf or till price; you must be a Scene+ member and show your card
- No general at-the-till competitor price match anywhere in the chain
Why you can't price match at Sobeys — and how "Verified Prices" actually works
- 01You can't hand a Sobeys cashier a competitor's flyer to match a price — there is no such program.
- 02In Atlantic Canada, show your Scene+ card at checkout; if a flyer item marked with the "Verified Prices" icon is cheaper at a pre-verified competitor, the difference is auto-credited as Scene+ points (e.g. $3.99 vs $2.99 → about 100 points).
- 03For an actual lower price at the till, shop a banner that matches flyers — for example sister-banner FreshCo (1¢ below) or No Frills.
Sobeys markets a "Verified Prices" guarantee, but it's points (not a price cut), Atlantic-Canada-only, and only on items Sobeys pre-selects — so for everyday price-matching it sits with the non-matchers, while its own discount banner FreshCo does the real thing.

A price match is only worth it if you know who's actually cheapest this week. Faircart compares your real list across the banners so you can find the lowest price to bring in.
